Hello, friends and a very Happy Friday to you! It’s been a very long week filled with heat, humidity, and prepping for my upcoming October campout. Work has me crazy busy and I have been trying my very best to keep the blog update.
This week I decided to start a new series called “Friday Faves”, where I feature some of my very favorite things and hope that you get a chance to check some of them out. Below is a list of things that made me super happy this week.
My obsession with pineapples appeared from… well I don’t know where it came from. Pineapples make me happy, so what more does one need? I found this cute and super affordable (only $10) pendant at Charming Charlies not long ago. I wear it with everything! It’s long enough to wear by itself or layer it with other shorter gold necklaces. They did not have matching earrings, but I was able to find some at TJMaxx that looked perfect with it. You can check it out here.
This may be my favorite purchase in a very long time. After much searching for the perfect sleeping bag for tent camping, I came across the Kelty Women’s Tru.Comfort 20 sleeping bag online. During the holiday weekend a few weeks back, Rei was having an amazing sale online. I was able to get this bag, which usually runs around $119 for only $89! Can we say major score? I am going to test it out in October and will report back with a full review.
This Bubba 24oz gun metallic stainless steel tumbler is a little powerhouse. I came across it at TJMaxx’s kitchen section, and since it was around $9 dollars, I thought why not. I needed a new tumbler/sports bottle for the gym and hiking and this seemed good enough for me. Boy, was I surprised! This little beauty keeps my drinks cold for hours. I even forgot it in my hot car for an entire day and when I went to sip, the water was still relatively cold.
Are your feet always cold, making you miserable for the entire day? Well, do I have the socks for your friend! Meet the warmest thermal sock that I have come across, the Heat Holders Ladies Original. When fall rolls around I am 100% dedicated to being outside at UVA football games, rain, wind, or cold. The first year I was always so miserably cold. I tried a bunch of different boot and hiking socks that were recommended and then one day I came across these babies at TJMaxx (nope, nope. TJMaxx is not paying me in any way to shop there. I just heart it). I was skeptical until I wore them to my first super duper cold home game at Scott Stadium. The rest of my body might have been freezing, but my footsies had no complaints. Heat Holders also makes other socks, tights and leggings and have men’s products as well. Highly recommend.
Last year I got my first dog ever. Mr. Albus Puppledore came into my life and I was completely dedicated to spoiling the little Bichon/Shih Tzu mix. I had zero ideas about owning a dog, so I did what Mariana does best – research, research, research. Many experts recommended harnesses instead of leashes for smaller dogs, simply because they are easier to accidently choke with collars. Yikes! After trying way too many harnesses and returning them, I came across this simple, yet well made Adjustable Mesh Harness at Petco. It was the first one to properly fit my 15-pound ball of energy and not make it uncomfortable for him to romp around. Fur baby is happy, mamma bear is happy.
My dog Albus is not really a picky eater…when it comes to cheese that is. When I first got Albus we went through several dry dog foods and he never seemed to really want to eat. I had heard that you should never leave out food, so they don’t get in the habit of grazing. But when it came down to it, that’s what I had to end up doing, just to make sure he ate something. This was crazy! Aren’t pups supposed to love eating? After a lot of trial and error, I came across the Wellness TruFood Small Breed Baked Blends, and I am so glad I decided to give it a try. I know, It’s pricey, but it’s definitely way better for your dog than the brands you would find at Walmart. TruFood actually has fruit and veggie bits in it. I can actually see the Kale bits and Albus LOVES his veggies. From the minute I put it into his bowl, the pup chomped it down like it was his first meal ever. Love, Love, Love. Make sure to also check out their treats.
If you like science fiction books, give this series a try. Having been a fan of Brandon Sanderson’s other works (cough cough, looking at you Wheel of Time), then I highly recommend The Mistborn Series. Think of it as Harry Potter meets Ocean’s Eleven. “A thousand years ago, the prophesied hero from lore rose up to overthrow a great and terrible evil. Only, he lost, and the Dark Lord took over and has been ruling with an iron fist for a thousand years. Ash falls from the sky in this barren land, and mists come every night, deep and mysterious. In this setting, a gang of thieves decides that the prophecies were all lies and that they can’t trust in some fabled hero to save them.” If you are Audible fan, download now and get listening or buy the book, your choice.
You know when you’re watching a movie or TV show and all of a sudden that nostalgic feeling punches you in the gut, reminding you of your childhood, Halloween, staying out until dinner time and so on? That’s what Stranger Things did to me. Netflix recommended it, but it took forever for me to actually press play. I’m so glad I did. The series is set in the 80’s and “when a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.” The humor is solid, the cast is solid, and it leaves you wishing there were more than 8 episodes. By far one of my favorite shows, with a cast of super talented youngsters. I actually liked the child actors performances better than the adults. Home run on this one Netflix.
Deschutes is the latest brewery to call Roanoke, VA home. Although they haven’t officially settled in yet, they did hold a Street Pub event (record breaking) in one of our parks/amphitheatre. It was an amazing event and I promise to write more about that later on. I got my first taste of their Fresh Squeezed IPA at the Street Pub. Now normally, I am a lager and red ale beer fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. Refreshing, light, a hint of citrus, and not oppressively hop-filled. It has won it’s rightful place as part of my select variety weekend packs. A win all around for Deschutes.
