Best Gathering Places With A Dog Friendly Vibe

Taste Of Wander Albus Puppledore at Wasena City Tap Room in Roanoke, Virginia

If you are anything like me, your dog is your baby – your fur baby to be exact. They are a member of your family and just like kiddos, they should also be allowed to go out and have fun with you. Sadly, there aren’t very many places that would agree with us, but every now and then you find some amazing places that welcomes our entire family! Take a look at some of my favorite places in Roanoke and Botetourt that welcome man’s best friend.

Wasena City Tap Room and Grill is the quintessential neighborhood bar. Well, at least for those who love amazing craft beers and mouthwatering food. Located right off one of the main Roanoke greenways, this family and dog friendly bar is one of my favorite places in Roanoke. Every Wednesday they have tap takeovers and the first few in the door get a free pint glass. Their menu boasts weekly specials and staples such as their tacos, burritos, and wood fired pizzas. This isn’t a greasy spoon – whether you’re there for brunch, lunch or dinner, expect fresh and handmade dishes that will have you wanting more! Their patio is open year round and welcomes well-behaved leashed dogs. And since it’s located next to a greenway and two major Roanoke parks, you can even take your pooch for a walk afterwards.

Favorite Noms: Tapped Out Nachos, Any Tacos, and Carnitas Pizza.
Favorite Taps: There’s 31 continuously roatating beers and ciders! Current favorite is the Crispin Blackberry Pear Cider.

The Green Goat Restaurant

The Green Goat is located right down the Roanoke River Greenway from Wasena Tap Room, and just recently celebrated their one year anniversary! Their wooden wrap-around patio is huge, making it a perfect place for you and your pooch to hang out, enjoy the day, and have great times with friends. You can enjoy their full menu and drinks either from the patio overlooking the river, or from inside their rustic themed restaurant. I love going here as they also feature paintings from local Roanoke artists (I have my eye on a pineapple painting). Don’t think they forget the kiddos either! They are known to have inflatable bounce castles, cornhole, giant jenga sets, hula hoops and more. Make sure to bring a Frisbee as the shady front lawn of The Green Goat is perfect for lawn games.

Favorite Noms: Korean Tacos, DEFINITELY their Korean Tacos.
Favorite Taps: Ginger Beer Mojitos! Talk about a refreshing drink.

Town Center Tap House

At the Town Center Tap House, in Daleville, VA dogs are treated like a regular! The Town Center Tap House has two large outdoor patios, both dog-friendly, and they even provide water bowls with fresh water for your pup. Talk about great service! The Town Center Tap House is great for small or large groups. Their restaurant has flat screen tv’s both in their dining rooms and bar, as well as pool tables for your enjoyment. Their multi-page menu has delicious choices, and make sure to try their beer flights to find your favorite. Located in the Daleville Town Center, they are just across the street from the Pavilion which hosts weekly outdoor events and concerts, making it a great place to pre-game or end your night.

Favorite Noms: Cajun Crab Dip, Soft Pretzels, Philly Cheese Steak Sub
Favorite Taps: Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA, Devil’s Backbone Vienna Lager

Flying Mouse Brewery

Set in a hollow near the Appalachian Trail and right off of Bike Route 76, Flying Mouse Brewery is as outdoor and dog friendly as they come! The resident Flying Mouse pup is Frodo, a shaggy black and white mix. Just ask him what the best beer on the menu is, he won’t lead you astray. This is by far one of my favorite brewery’s in the Roanoke and Botetourt area, mainly because of their relaxed-outdoor vibe. Flying Mouse focuses on the actual enjoyment of craft beer as part of an active outdoor lifestyle. There is no restaurant attached to the brewery, but they encourage folks to either bring a picnic basket, carry out from the great local restaurants around (shout out to 3 Li’l Pigs BBQ), or enjoy the food trucks that make an appearance at the brewery. Friendly, well-mannered dogs are allowed all over the property both inside and out.

Favorite Noms: The food trucks that come by are amazing, especially the gourmet grilled cheese one!
Favorite Taps: Flying Mouse 5, Flying Mouse 4

Thank you for posting the wonderful photo of Gavin, the “adopt me” dog at The Green Goat. This picture, taken by the owner, was from Gavin’s second visit to The Goat. As an animal rescue volunteer, I take dogs to dog-friendly venues to get them out and about, to see new places, get some exercise and fresh air, help to socialize them, and let the public meet adoptable dogs.

The Green Goat is a favorite destination because it has lots of outdoor seating, plus water bowls and dog treats (and excellent food and drink)!

Other dog-friendly favorites include Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers in Roanoke and Parkway Brewing Company in Salem.

By the way, handsome Gavin is still looking for a home. He is available through Franklin County Humane Society: http://www.plannedpethoodrockymount.com or 540-489-3491.

Hi Bobbi, that is the sweetest thing! I love it when people go above and beyond to treat animals with great care. People like you give me the happy feels :). I haven’t been to Soaring Ridge or Parkway yet, but they are definitely on my list to check out with my pup Albus, as I have heard a lot of good things about them both.

Thanks for sharing Gavin’s info, let’s work to get that handsome fella adopted! I shared his info on my Facebook post and hope it will help bring him a lot of luck. Keep me posted if you all do any doggie adoptions at the green goat or other places in Roanoke, as I would love to help you all out by sharing.

Thanks, Mariana! Gavin has been looking for a home for almost two years, so he could use your help. There are several area rescue groups that have adoption events and fundraisers at local venues, and I’d be happy to share that info with you.
